The following courses have been developed by the SMMDP to deliver high quality, clinically relevant and accessible courses to all health professionals involved in maternity care provision in Scotland.

Scottish Neonatal Resuscitation Course (SNRC)
This course aims to provide healthcare personnel with the assessment and airway management skills necessary for effective resuscitation at birth. It will meet the needs of healthcare providers who do not require the more advanced skills provided on the Newborn Life Support (NLS) course or the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Scottish Routine Examination of the Newborn Course (SRENC)
The aim of the course is to provide candidates with the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge to undertake the routine examination of the newborn. This practical course followed by supervised practice supports all who examine newborn babies it provides the participants with comprehensive and structured and holistic approach to the newborn examination.
Scottish Neonatal Stabilisation Course (SNSC)
The aim of the Scottish Neonatal Stabilisation Course is to provide participants usually in remote and rural settings with the knowledge and enhanced practical skills to competently manage the care of the baby who requires stabilisation and support whilst awaiting the neonatal transport team. Participants will be able to describe normal transition to extra uterine life, have a greater understanding of the unexpected problems a baby may have in the first hours and days of life, detection of these and the immediate care required.
