NHS Scotland and The Scottish Government Health Directorates (SGHD)
NHS Scotland (National Health Service for Scotland) and The Scottish Government Health Directorates (SGHD) are responsible for health policy and the administration of the National Health Service in Scotland. The Scottish Maternity website is managed by SGHD with input from the other project sponsors as detailed on this page.

Royal College of General Practitioners
The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) is the academic organisation in the UK for general practitioners. Its aim is to encourage and maintain the highest standards of general medical practice and act as the ‘voice’ of general practitioners on education, training and standards issues.

Royal College of Midwives
The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) is the only trade union and professional organisation run by midwives for midwives. It is the voice of midwifery, providing excellence in professional leadership, education, influence and representation for and on behalf of midwives.

Royal College of Anaesthetists
The Royal College of Anaesthetists is the professional body responsible for the specialty of anaesthesia throughout the United Kingdom. Its principal responsibility is to ensure the quality of patient care through the maintenance of standards in anaesthesia, critical care and pain management.

Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) is dedicated to the encouragement of the study and the advancement of the science and practice of obstetrics and gynaecology.

Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health
The functions and responsibilities of the RCPCH have rapidly expanded since its formation to include the oversight of postgraduate training and examinations. It continues to conduct paediatric research, organise meetings and conferences and to publish papers and guidelines of relevance to paediatric practice.

Scottish Ambulance Service
The Scottish Ambulance Service serves all of Scotland and is a Special Health Board funded directly by the Scottish Government Health Directorate.
It is the frontline of the NHS in Scotland and covers the largest geographic area of any ambulance service in the UK.
It has two main functions - the provision of an Accident and Emergency service to respond to 999 calls and the Non-Emergency Service, which performs an essential role in taking patients to and from their hospital appointments.
